The short version: Rachel Linden was born May 19th at 9:05 a.m. She was 20" long and weighed 6 pounds 10 ounces.
The long version: I was scheduled to go in for an induction due to protein creeping in to my urine on May 16th. That turned out to be the day to be in l&d and after waiting all day for the call to come in, they never had a bed for me. We tried again on 5/17 and were finally admitted for the induction. We did four two-hour doses of cytotec to start ripening my cervix, because there has been absolutely zero progress. This got me finger tip dilated and an overnight dose of cervidil.
By the morning of the 18th, I was maybe 2 cm and 50% effaced. At this point, we decided to insert a foley bulb to manually dilate my cervix. The worst pain I've ever felt not. Not joking even a little. After a couple of hours, I got an epidural and we started pitocin. The foley bulb got me to 6 cm, 80% effaced and the pitocin eventually took me to 7 cm but that was it. Rachel was getting decels during contractions, so we stopped and started the pitocin several times.
By morning, it was clear that a vaginal delivery wasn't going to happen, so we went to the OR for a c-section. I just sobbed, not because I didn't want the surgery but because I was scared. But she came out perfect and we were totally smitten. She was very sleepy and hard to wake for feedings (still is sometimes) and developed jaundice.
I was discharged on Wednesday, but Rachel had to stay for photo therapy. Fortunately, the hospital lets you stay in your room with the baby, but it was so hard to watch her lay there, blindfolded, in that hard bassinet all day. We could only take her out for 30 minutes every three hours to eat and we had to supplement with formula and I started pumping to get her some colostrum.
Thursday morning, she was discharged and we went home, after nearly a week in the hospital. We are slowly settling in at home. She was back up to 6 pound 5 oz at the pediatrician Friday and her bili was down to 10. I had my staples out on Friday as well and I'm healing pretty well.

Re: Hello Strangers!
.
congratulations! thank you for sharing!
I was told recently that I will be induced at 39 weeks or I will have a planned csection.
I had hoped to go into labor on my own, but it is not in the cards for us.
The more I have been thinking/hearing about failed inductions, the more I have been wondering if I should just go with the csection. Being in labor for a day or two and then ending up with a csection anyway seems like it would be very hard.
Knowing what you know now, would you have thought about a planned csection instead? :-)
When you've been married this long, you need a ticker to remind you.

This makes my heart happy. I remember reading the post from you when you had gone to hear a lecture for a chance at a DE cycle, and you didn't end up winning (I was new around these parts then). And that made me so sad, and I was rooting for you.
I am so so happy for you Reba!
I was just thinking about you.
So glad she's here and I'm really happy for you! She's beautiful!
If I had known before we started that I hadn't made any progress on my own and that the cord was around her foot so that she couldn't come out if she wanted to, then, yes, I would have gone with the planned c-section and skipped the two day long induction.
There are many people on my BMB who had very easy and successful inductions, so it's just a judgement call.

I've been wondering where you've been. Congrats on your little princess! May 19th is my anniversary, so I think it's makes a great birthday.
Im glad recovery is going well for you both, and Rachel is absolutely gorgeous!
Congratulations again, love! Welcome, Rachel! We've all been waiting so long for you and are so glad you're here!

I had a very positive induction experience. I was already 5 cm dilated and M was at +2 station. I would never have agreed to an induction if I wasn't already starting to dilate. But every woman is different.

I wouldn't have done the induction if I hadn't had to. I was starting to get protein in my urine and MFM said it was time to go.

I totally understand, Reba. I hope I didn't offend you. I didn't mean that you shouldn't have been induced. I know that there are definitely instances when it's best to get baby out. I could have worded my response better, but I wanted to share my experience with cinderin.
I'm not offended.
I agree, I would have waited to go into labor on my own if I could have. I still would have ended up with a c-section since the cord was around her foot, but I could have skipped the first two days.
